One Cover At a Time

Rolling Stone is a phenomenal magazine and where politics and POP culture thrive there is bound to be amazing photography. Rolling Stone magazine was founded in San Francisco, California by a man named Jann Wenner in1967. Consequently Wenner is still the Chief Editor of the magazine. During the 1970s it was the goal of the magazine to discuss and expose the more controversial opinions on political topics. However, around the 1990s Rolling Stone began trying to appeal to a younger audience and started incorporating stories of popular TV shows, as well as music trends. Currently there are almost 1.5 million copies of Rolling Stone in circulation, which some may find hard to believe if they knew that Wenner founded the magazine with only $7,500, barrowed from family. Rolling Stone magazine has earned its place in POP culture as well as in the world of photography.

Wenner employs some of the best photographers in the game such as Annie Leibovitz who was topic of one of my earlier posts. She has captured some of Rolling Stone’s most memorable covers such as John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono only hours before Lennon died. Rolling Stone never fails to test the limits in the publishing industry while staying true to what it was originally about. The photography in it only enhances the magazine to a greater potential, they say a picture is worth a thousand words yet there are numerous articles behind the stunning covers of Rolling Stone Magazine.
